Our first (HD)TV purchase as a married couple

Michelle and I decided to take advantage of Super Bowl deals on television sets, and plunge into our first high-definition living room companion. It's also our first television set purchased as a married couple!

Hey - that's important, because in 30 years, we'll be telling our kids how "our first TV was this shitty 46-inch LCD" that we had to "buy on Amazon and get delivered to us," as even that will be too much work in the future.

Here's the geek specs: Samsung LN46B650 46-Inch, 120Hz.

Now, I've watched an HD-TV before, but I can't begin to describe the picture on this thing! It literally pops out at you! Even for non-HD content, the display is absolutely wonderful.

As I sat down to watch an episode of Entourage on DVD, I literally felt that Vince and the gang were in my living room! The clarity of their faces was amazing, and they appeared physically closer to me, like the camera was zoomed in much more, but with no loss of quality.

Motion also appeared much differently. It felt like the characters on the show were moving slower, or more precisely. Motion seems more life-like.

To say I didn't understand the real value in HD was short-sighted, since I hadn't ever experienced this quality of picture before. Now that I have, I still don't think an HD-TV is a priority purchase, but I can see how it would be hard to go back to a standard television.

And remember, I'm an HD-TV newbie, so of course I'm gonna be impressed the first week of use. Let's give it a year or so, and I'll see how impressed I still am.
